José Antonio Kast and Jaime Mayor Oreja meet this Friday, February 25, at the Transatlantic Dialogues of the Political Network for Values (PNfV), to discuss the new political force led by Kast, which has become the leading alternative to the radical left in Chile.
Kast has passed the turnoff election in the general election of November from last year and was just one step away from taking over Chile’s presidency. Even though the one who ended up being elected was the leftist Gabriel Boric, there is no doubt that the huge citizen movement that gained strength thanks to Kast has no comparison with any other in the region.
In 2017 the Chilean politician obtained half a million votes in the first presidential turn in which he entered almost without any resources. Four years later he counts with a solid citizen movement, a think tank, the Republican party and more than three and a half million votes.
How was this even possible? Which were the keys to this success? What political and cultural influence can this have in the region? These and other questions will be first-hand answered by Kast himself, a member of the PNfV Advisory Council, and by a keen observer from the other side of the Atlantic, Jaime Mayor Oreja, former Interior Minister of the Aznar government, and co-founder of the network.
The online event named “New emerging politics: the case of Chile”, will also include the participation of some of the youngest legislators in the country, elected by the RP.
